This conference will focus on resiliency and will endeavor to identify the pillars such as social-emotional learning, kindness, compassion and empathy upon which it is structured. The purpose is to look at what is done in schools and society that better equips adults to navigate the challenges that will face our next generation of learners. The conference will address the science of resiliency and how through discoveries in brain research we can support the needs of the adults who work with children. We have to help ourselves before we can serve those around us. In addition, we will explore what we have learned to help the children in our schools. Research strongly suggests that the tools of resiliency can be both passed on and nurtured by parents, teachers and community members who recognize the power to overcome. This conference will partner with the Dalai Lama Center in Vancouver and UBCO and will be held at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre (PTCC) from Aug 17-19, 2014.
